Note to my girlfriends and genealogy/writing buddies: if you are looking for a thrilling summer read, then Ree Drummond’s The Pioneer Woman: Black Heels to Tractor Wheels–a Love Storyis a book I enthusiastically recommend!! Drummond’s book is a true love story/memoir and a sizzling summer read!
This page-turning book is short, sweet, and hard to put down. Drummond’s memoir chronicles the red-hot romance between her former vegan, city slicker self and the man who swept her off her feet, turning her into a steak-grilling cowboy’s wife. I couldn’t put it down!
As a genealogist, I also really appreciate how often Drummond refers to the Scottish ancestry of her sexy cowboy love each time she contemplates his chosen lifestyle of cattle-raising. Instead of trying to convert him to city life, she accepts the generations-long tradition of ranch life in his family, and decides to help keep their homesteading traditions alive.
This book will also inspire procrastinating family historians out there who haven’t yet written down their courtship and marriage stories in detail for future generations to enjoy.
After reading this book, I realized how pathetically brief my own chronicle of courtship and marriage to my husband is written. There were SO many little aspects of our relationship that I had never thought to put onto paper before I read this book, and once I finished reading it, I had loads of great memories return to my mind, which I quickly added to the ongoing Scrivener chapters of my life story.
In summary: Drummond’s book is a hilarious and heart-pounding love story memoir that will have you re-reading this book every summer, and it will also inspire you to write out your own life’s adventures in greater detail!
